The Cattle Drive! Jume 2009

Getting ready to go on the cattle drive. We got up bright and early, got ready to go to the Ranch and we were off to a big Adventure! Granny had waffles ready for us to eat be fore we left. MMMM!

This year on the cattle drive some of the horses were a little hard to control. They hadn't been out for rides much this summer. Devan's horse reared and Devan fell off! He was fine though, just scared. My horse kept wanting to go back home, but everything worked out okay. Some of the cousins took turns riding horses or riding in the back of the truck. We pushed the cows up high into the range and then found our camping spot for the night. When we got to the camp we set up our tents and cots to be ready for the night.

Luciano, Claro and Uncle Larry made a wonderful dinner! Actually we all helped out with the preparations for dinner. We had dutch oven potatoes, "disco" meat, and for dessert a delicious cobbler and ice cream! MMMM! "Disco" is a cooking pan that Luciano and Claro made and use over the fire to cook the meat and vegetables in. Kind of like a Mexican Stir Fry! (See the picture above.) I almost forgot! We also ended the night by sitting by the fire, eating s'mores and listening to Uncle Larry tell stories about Tally-Ho the Lizard. :)
We always eat really well on the cattle drive. For breakfast we had scrambled eggs mixed with the left over "disco" meat and dutch oven potatoes rolled up into homemade tortillas. Delicious!

Josh was so happy to have water when we got to camp. He is standing in front of his camp sight.

Jennifer is happy to see her friends and Dad at the camp. She shows how happy she is with lots of smiles.

Granny loves to see her grandchildren on the cattle drive. She is so awesome to take us on and give us this opportunity to go on a cattle drive.

The wild flowers were so beautiful on this ride. We saw blue, yellow, white, and purple flowers all along the roadside.

Best friends forever. Sofie and Jennesee.

Total goof-offs Hyrum and Tanner in there camp.

Devan and Ellie just hanging out after a long ride.

When we all got to the camp everyone was so tired and just tuckered out! This cattle drive was a neat experience. Thank you Grany and Grampy! Love, Ashlyn
